To better assist you, the representative will ask you a few questions:
- Name and address
- Date of birth
- Name of your primary care physician
- Type of insurance, insurance numbers and address of the insurance company
- Social Security number
- Are you having a problem or is this for a screening visit
Gastroenterology provides a team approach to patient care to assure access to appointments and ongoing care.
You will be given an appointment with one of our doctors or nurse practitioners. You are asked to bring your insurance cards, co-pay, a list of any medication you are on, the dosage of that medication. If you have any medical records that may help with your care please bring them with you to the appointment. In order for us to better serve your medical needs; we have supplied our Patient Information Forms. Please complete the forms and bring them with you. As a reminder, if your insurance requires a referral from your primary care physician authorizing your visit, you will need to make sure that has been done.
When you call to make a return visit your information is reviewed for any changes. If it has been a year or more since your last visit you will need to update forms and present your insurance cards again. If you have had any changes of significance since your last visit to our practice please let our office know. If you are coming in for a new problem please advise the scheduler and get any medical records pertaining to this sent to our office or bring them with you.

Billing & Insurance Information

Gastroenterology Associates of Central Virginia, Inc. has certified billers/coders and participates with several insurance carriers. Below you will find a partial listing, however the insurance arena is constantly changing. We strongly suggest that you check with your specific carrier to make sure that they have our doctors listed as participating physicians prior to the date of your appointment.

If you don’t see your insurance carrier, please contact us. A payment schedule for non-covered services can be arranged, and our billing office will be glad to help you.
Medical Records and Information: Medical records may be obtained by printing and completing the medical release form found at the right of this web page. Please complete all information and fax or mail to Gastroenterology Associates. All medical records are mailed to the home address we currently have on file. If records are obtained for personal use there is a nominal fee of $5.00. If they are faxed to the physician’s office listed on the medical release form there is no charge. All forms can be found on the Patient Forms page of this site.

If you have a problem between appointments we may be able to fine-tune your care by phone or on-line services. Many times our doctors do not return calls right away; however, you may receive a response sooner from one of our certified nurses.
- It is our general policy not to prescribe new medications over the phone.
- Long-term medication renewals may be handled by phone or on-line; as long as you remain under active care of Gastroenterology Associates.
- If you are calling for a renewal on pain medication, only the physician in our practice who is in charge of your care can handle this.
- If you need a prescription refilled, please call your pharmacy and have them fax us a refill request (fax 434-384-7704).
